Salmonella
Salmonella paratyphi (See paratyphoid fever)
Salmonella Typhi (See Typhoid fever).
Cause/Symptoms: Bacteria. Symptoms include sudden onset of headache, fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and sometimes vomiting.
Transmission: Fecal-oral route, either by direct contact with an infected person or indirectly through ingestion of contaminated food.
Pets (iguanas, turtles, sometimes cats and dogs) and farm animals are another common source of infection.
Incubation: 6 to 72 hours, usually 12 to 36 hours.
Period of Communicability: Up to several weeks or months after onset of symptoms.
Your child can return to daycare once all the following criteria has been meet:
~ Diarrhea
~ your child can participate in all daycare activities
~ you have a Dr.'s note stating that it is safe for your child to be around other children (as young as 10m) and adults
Be prepared for your child to be out of care for several weeks or months

- 24 hours from the time the diarrhea reducing medication are out of your child system (8 to 10 hours after taking last dose) and diarrhea has not returned
- 24 hours free of any diarrhea reducing medication or any other medication that can mask symptoms of illness.
- If no medication is given: 24 hours starting one (1) hour after your child's last diarrhea bowel movement
- 48 hours from the time the fever reducing medication are out of your child system (8 to 10 hours after taking last dose) and fever has not returned
- 48 hours free of any fever reducing medication or any other medication that can mask symptoms of illness.
- If no medication is given: 48 hours starting one (1) hour after you discover your child’s fever has broken
- 48 hours from the time the vomit reducing medication (such as, Gravel) are out of your child system (8 to 10 hours after taking last dose) and vomiting has not restarted
- 48 hours free of any vomit reducing medication or any other medication that can mask symptoms of illness.
- If no medication is given: 48 hours starting one (1) hour after the last time your child vomited.

~ you have a Dr.'s note stating that it is safe for your child to be around other children (as young as 10m) and adults
