Pinworms
Your child is to remain home.
Cause/Symptoms:
Transmission:
Incubation:
Period of Communicability:
- Worms.
- Itching around the anal area.
Transmission:
- Fecal-oral route or indirectly from contaminated items such as bedding, clothing, toilet seats or toys.
Incubation:
- 1 to 2 months or longer.
Period of Communicability:
- Until treatment is initiated.
Pinworm Treatment:
- Pinworm medicines are available with a prescription or without one such as Pin-X. Your doctor will decide which one is best for your child. Take as directed.
- Give a repeat dose of the pinworm medicine in 2 weeks. Reason: To prevent the pinworms from coming back.
- The repeat dose is needed because eggs can live for 1 to 2 weeks. Temperature and humidity levels also affect how long the eggs can stay alive.
Your child can return to daycare, once all the following criteria has been meet:
- 48 hrs after the last treatment
- All the worms/eggs are 100% gone
- At least 18 days have passed since the onset of symptoms/diagnosis
Your child is required to remain home for at least eighteen (18) days, if not longer.
