Fifth Disease. (Parvovorus B19, Erythema infectiosum, "Slapped Cheek Syndrome")
Cause/Symptoms: Virus. Fever, headache, malaise, anorexia, infrequent stools and possible rash on trunk.
Transmission: Person to person by direct or indirect contact with respiratory secretions; mother to fetus.
Incubation: 4 to 14 days; can be as long as 21 days.
Your child can return to care, once all the following criteria has been meet:
~ Fever
Infected children with sickle cell or other forms of chronic anemia and pregnant personnel are advised to consult with their health care provider.

~ Fever
- 48 hours from the time the fever reducing medication are out of your child system (8 to 10 hours after taking last dose) and fever has not returned
- 48 hours free of any fever reducing medication or any other medication that can mask symptoms of illness.
- If no medication is given: 48 hours starting one (1) hour after you discover your child’s fever has broken
- If your child has a rash he/she must get a doctor’s note stating that the rash is not contagious and what the rash is.
- If you don't get a dr.'s note your child will need to remain home until the rash is gone.
