- Bacteria
- Diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting - may be mild to severe
- Stools may contain blood
Transmission:
- Fecal-oral route
- Ingestion of under-cooked meat (especially poultry), unpasteurized milk and contaminated water or by direct contact with fecal material from infected animals or people
Incubation:
- 1 to 10 days
Period of Communicability
- Variable, as long as organisms are being excreted; usually 2 to 7 weeks
We can discuss your child's return to daycare once all the following criteria has been met:
- There is no longer any blood in your child's stool
- Your child is no longer in any pain
- Your child can participate in all the daycare activities
- Your child is eating and drinking normally
- At least 14 days have passed since the onset of symptoms/diagnosis
- The daycare diarrhea policy has been followed
- The daycare fever policy has been followed
- The daycare vomiting policy has been followed
- A doctors note is required stating your child is no longer contagious
Your child is required to remain home for at least fourteen (14) days, if not longer.
