Amebiasis
Your child is required to remain home.
Cause/Symptoms:

Incubation:
Period of Communicability:
- Parasite,
- Abdominal distention and cramps, diarrhea or constipation, and rarely fever or chills,
- May be symptom free.
Transmission:
- Fecal-oral route. Food and water contaminated by an infected food handler or sewage.
Incubation:
- Few days to several months, commonly 2 to 4 weeks.
Period of Communicability:
- During the period that cysts are passed, which may continue for years.
We can discuss your child's return to daycare once all the following criteria has been met:
- 72 hours after completion of antibiotic treatment. Antibiotic treatments normally last ten (10) days,
- 24 hours starting one (1) hour after you discover your child no longer has the chills,
- Your child can participate in all the daycare activities,
- Your child is eating and drinking normally,
- At least 14 days have passed since the onset of symptoms/diagnosis,
- A doctor's note is required stating your child is no longer contagious,
- The daycare diarrhea policy has been followed,
- The daycare fever policy has been followed,
- The daycare constipation policy has been followed.
Your child WILL be home for at least fourteen (14) days, if not longer.
