Q: How long has she been caring for children?
A: I started babysitting when I was 12 years old.
I worked as a part-time nanny in college for 4 children.
I became a mom in 2009
I opened my home daycare in October of 2012
Q: Is the caregiver involved with the children or just directing their activities?
A: I am involved in some activities as well as directing others.
Q: Does the caregiver have training and experience in caring for your age child?
A: I have worked as a nanny for 3 years for child ages 2 years to 8 years. I also have children of my own.
Q: Does the caregiver have basic first aid/CPR training?
A: Yes, I update it every 2 years
Q: Does the caregiver have liability insurance?
A: Yes
Q: Does the caregiver have a Police Records Check?
A: Yes

A: I am involved in some activities as well as directing others.
Q: Does the caregiver have training and experience in caring for your age child?
A: I have worked as a nanny for 3 years for child ages 2 years to 8 years. I also have children of my own.
Q: Does the caregiver have basic first aid/CPR training?
A: Yes, I update it every 2 years
Q: Does the caregiver have liability insurance?
A: Yes
Q: Does the caregiver have a Police Records Check?
A: Yes
Health and Safety
Q: Are toxic substances inaccessible to children?
A: All toxic substances are in cupboards/drawers in rooms the children do not have access too or stored up high.
Q: Are there smoke detectors and fire extinguishers?
A: Yes. I have 3 smoke detectors. One on each floor. I also have 2 Carbon Monoxide detectors. One on the main floor and one in the basement. I keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen.
Q: Are stairs barricaded if there are young children in care?
A: The stair case going to the basement is gated. I am unable to gate the stairs going upstairs due to there location.
Q: Are play areas and equipment clean, safe and well maintained?
A: Yes. I clean the play areas as often as needed. The equipment and toys are cleaned/wiped down and checked once a week. Any toys that children put in their mouth is washed daily.
Q: Is the outdoor play area fenced?
A: Yes, My backyard is fully fenced in
Q: Are electrical outlets covered?
A: Yes. The electrical outlets are covered.
Q: Are rooms clean, bright and well ventilated?
A: The daycare room has 2 large windows that let lots of sunlight in. The windows also open to allow air in.
Q: Are facilities for food preparation clean and safe?
A: Yes. The counters are wiped down before I prepare any meal or snack. All sharp knifes are on top of the fridge.
Q: Do children receive nutritious meals and snacks?
A: Yes. Please see What We... Section of this site to see a list of foods served.
Q: Are meals modified for allergies if necessary?
A: All special foods are brought in by the parents
Q: Do children have a rest or nap time each day?
A: Yes. Quiet time is from 12pm to 3pm daily.
Q: Does each child have his/her own crib/cot/bed?
A: Yes. Each child has their own mat or playpen (depending on age) and own blankets/bedding that get washed at the end of each week.

A: Yes. We go on walks, on adventures (Museums, Fire Stations etc)

Discipline
Q: Is the caregiver able to explain discipline policies to you?
A: Yes. I first start with redirecting the child. If that doesn't help I put the child in time out.
Q: Is discipline handled in such a way that is not hurtful, frightening, intimidating or injurious to the children?
A: Yes.
Q: Does the caregiver’s method of discipline seem appropriate to the age of the child?
A: Yes. When in time out the child is only there for the 1 minute per age.
Q: How are incidents involving two or more children handled?
A: If one child hits another child then the one doing the hitting goes into time out and depending on age has to say sorry. I also take the time to speak to both children about hitting etc.
Q: Does the caregiver explain rules clearly and reinforce positive behaviour?
A: Yes. I explain the rules as needed. I love to point out positive behaviour. I feel that it is very important for a child to know when they are doing something right and that you are proud of them.
